The Ocean Literacy Institute works with children and young people ages 3 to 18, and their safety comes first. Everyone who works with students on the Institute’s behalf completes a background check and child-safety training before any contact with students. A classroom teacher or partner staff member is present at every session, and Institute personnel never communicate privately with students. Photos of students are used only with written parent or guardian consent, and student information is collected only for approved programs and research, with consent, and kept secure.

To raise a concern, contact our Safeguarding Lead at safeguarding@oceanliteracyinstitute.org. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.
