You don’t need to be an ocean expert to teach this. Every book comes with materials designed to take work off your desk, not add to it.
• Age-specific books for ages 3 to 18
• Teacher guides with lesson plans and discussion questions
• Student activities, including systems-thinking and evidence exercises
• Family discussion guides that carry the story home
• Action challenges that give every student something to do
• Companion videos with real expedition footage
• Ocean career spotlights
As programs launch, schools will be able to choose from book-based units, classroom visits and assemblies, ocean career presentations, virtual sessions, and student projects.
This will be updated as each format becomes available.
We’re looking for a small number of schools to join our first classroom pilot of Move Toward the Shark for ages 11–14 or ages 15-18. Participating classrooms receive:
• Free books or manuscripts, teacher guide, and activity kits
• A $500 stipend for each participating teacher
• Classroom support from a Founding Education Fellow
• A visit to share the true story behind the book
The pilot runs about one week of class time, with short assessments before and after, and follows your district’s research-approval and consent process. Pilot teachers help shape the final book and curriculum.
Everyone who works with students on the Institute’s behalf is background-screened and trained in child safety, and a classroom teacher is always present. Read our Safeguarding Statement.
